Become a first aid trainer – qualifications

As a member of the emergency services, your first aid knowledge is well maintained and kept to a high standard. This, however, does not excuse you from having to undertake the necessary qualifications needed to become a first aid trainer. According to the HSE, a first aid trainer should have knowledge and competence in first aid which can be demonstrated by:

  • A current and valid First Aid at Work certificate.
  • Having current registration as either a doctor, nurse, paramedic or midwife.

Additionally, all trainers are required to hold an adult teaching qualification. This used to be called PTTLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) but is now commonly referred to as an AET (Award in Education and Training) award which is a mandatory minimum qualification for all those teaching in the learning and skills sector.

While you can certainly become a qualified first aid trainer without the help of Blue Light Academy we simplify the entire process from start to finish. To learn more about the programme and how BLA can help you become a first aid trainer please book a call here.
